AND MOULD ENDORSES HARRIS/WALZ
Bob Mould is honored to be performing with Late Night with Seth Meyers’ 8G Band for their final performance this Thursday (August 22). “In December 2014, I sat in with the 8G Band for an entire week,” Mould recalls. “Every day was an exciting experience — new songs to learn, a wide variety of interesting guests, and those super fresh and highly entertaining Seth monologues. I loved walking across the street to work each day, going to the NBC commissary for lunch, and hanging out with the band and crew. I’m humbled to be a small part of Thursday’s farewell to the 8G Band. It’s the end of an amazing run, it’s bittersweet for certain, and I’m hoping NBC will let us turn up extra loud!”
While Mould is performing at Late Night on Thursday, the Democrats will be officially nominating Kamala Harris as their candidate in this year’s election. Two weeks ago, when Harris named Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, it came to light that Walz is a fan of Mould’s first band, the seminal punk group Hüsker Dü. “It’s been quite a while since I’ve felt so good about the direction of the USA,” shares Mould. “It’s amazing to see and feel this sudden change. The country is rallying around newfound energy and joy, the hope for a better and brighter future, and I’m ready to help the cause in any way I can.” So excited about the news, Mould took to his guitar and quickly crafted an anti-Trump song, asking his social media followers to come up with a name for the song. Extensive coverage of the Mould-Walz connection was covered in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Stereogum.
In the two months leading up to the election, Mould will be touring solo throughout the United States. Today, he happily announced the opening artists for the two legs of the tour, including J Robbins (solo), Che Arthur, W.E. Thompson, David Barbe, Sam Hoffman and Cash Langdon. J Robbins will be playing on 10 of the 13 September shows while Mould’s ex-Sugar bandmate David Barbe will be opening 9 of the 12 October dates.
“David and I have stayed in touch over the years,” Mould says, “We ran into each other in San Francisco six weeks ago, and I immediately asked him if he’d be interested in playing his songs at some of the October shows. I’m thrilled that David is able to jump on NINE of the October shows, including Athens GA and Atlanta GA.”
